I grew up a pretty sheltered life, I will be honest. I've never experience any form of harsh racism, like being racially profiled by a cop. My parents never educated me on being discriminated, and mind you, I was brought up in a neighborhood that's was predominately white. I could literally count on my hands the number of blacks in my graduating class. I got my first really slap of racism in high school when a white boy called me a nigger . I could see it in his face that all he wanted to do was exert his power over me by using that word. He knew the weight that word had and choose to use it to hurt me. I was kind of stunned to be honest, that's what living a sugar-coated life will get you. My parent gave me the birds and the bees talk but never did they give me the racism talk nor did they equip me with tools should I ever be faced with it. What happen to that white boy? Let's just say God had my back and someone kicked his ass for the ultimate disrespect. So when I saw the video of damsel-in-distress Dayna and how she knew the power she had as a white woman, at that moment I had a flashback to the day I was called a nigger. What had me so upset is she knew the power she wields as a white woman by calling wolf and she reminded that man. What gave me chills is that this all happened in Central Park. If you have been living under a rock, Central Park was the park where 5 teenage boys were falsely convicted of rape and attempted murder and here comes Dayna using her tears to cry wolf in which could have escalated the situation which could possibly have resulted in another hashtag. She knew that by playing the damsel in distress card the law would side with her even though that man didn't touch her; he could of been punished severely. And that ladies and gentlemen, is the definition of white privileged, knowing the power in your whiteness and using it to your own best interest.
Not even 24 hours later and I am hit with an image that I'm literally tired of seeing. George Floyd on the floor while a cop has his knee heavily on his neck...
When I saw the video, I watched it over and over and over and I just cried. Here we go again, another unarmed black person, died by the hands of a cop. I am angry, I can’t find my words, I am grieving but most of all, I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS SH*T. I can literally hear the whispers, you know the one where they blame the victim for their death? Yup! I can hear those comments "Well if only he complied with the cops he wouldn't be dead", "He must have done something for the cops to have reacted that way cops don’t just kill people". I hate to break it to you but it is possible for a cop to kill someone and guess what it’s even possible for someone to comply and still end up dead, don’t believe me go ahead and google Philando Castile where he was complying with the demands of the officer and still got shot in front of his wife and young child. Just recently Ahmaud Arbery went for a jog and WAS HUNTED by two white men who shot him and killed him ( that story in itself was exhausting because he was shot in February but his killers were not arrested until April). Breonna Taylor is another victim who died in the comfort of her own home when police barged in and shot and killed her. There is a history of unarmed black people losing their lives because they are not liked and are being hunted, because of extreme and unnecessary force from police, because of fear. AND THE CRAZY PART ABOUT ALL THIS !!! in many of the situations there is no justice, cops or killers get off scot-free and there are no repercussions for their actions.

Whenever another unarmed black person dies we all grieve and we all have to remind our kids about how the world out there isn't as forgiving. Every parent right now is having these hard conversations with their children, because COVID isn't enough! Only a person of a minority will have these conversations, not a white person. We as black parents sadly have to show our children these images not cause we want to but because WE HAVE TO IN ORDER TO KEEP THEM SAFE! We can only pray that they come home at night and not become another hashtag. Oh, I can hear even more whispers "Oh, Michelle that's the US they are intense of there ". Well I hate to break it to you but Canada has racism here as well, but its a lot more covert racism compared to the states where you know some of your neighbors actually hate you due to the color of your skin. Whether its overt or covert, its still racism. Cops are still racial profiling blacks. CTV's host of The Social Marci Ien had her own encounter with a cop on her property and feared that she was going to die. So please, miss me with that.
So what’s the reason for my article? I am mad and I'm calling out people who will turn a blind eye when it comes to racial injustice but will lose their mind when and an animal is killed it really shows that you value the life of an animal over a life of a father, a fiance, a mother, a daughter, a child. I am not going to lie but I am hella side-eyeing some whypipo that I am supposed to be cool with and their lack of support for these injustices. I log on Facebook or Instagram and it’s only my black friends that are having these discussions. I could maybe count the very few whypipo that do support on my hands ( so far I’ve counted 3). For those of you that support and are helping to challenge the status quo, I thank you. For the rest of you, I challenge you to look at yourself in the mirror and question yourself as to why do you stay quiet why do you not have these conversations, why don’t you fight for injustice. Educate yourself after all ignorance is bliss, support groups like Black Lives Matter understand the cause support your black friends, repost injustices that are happening, show us you’re our ally, or else your no better than those racists.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
